Rev. Jennifer Butler founded Faith in Democracy (Fid) in December 2023 after founding and leading Faith in Public Life (FPL) from 2005 to 2023. Before founding FPL, Butler spent ten years organizing globally to address gender equality, the AIDS pandemic, children’s rights, and peace in the Middle East as the Presbyterian Church (USA) representative to the UN. Rev. Butler’s book Born Again: The Christian Right Globalized was the first to document the rise of a transnational religious right movement that could undermine democracy and human rights. She served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in a Mayan village in Belize from 1989-1991.
